The history of Eri Kaatha Ramar Temple…

During British rule, (1795-98) Chengalpettu District Collector Lionel Blaze was given darshan by Lord Ram along with Lakshman. The town and the people were protected from the lake breaching.

Once the Madhuranthakam lake was about to breach. Officials ask to use the stones kept for renovation of Janakavalli taayaar sannidhi in order to stop the lake-breach. The temple priest refuses saying that it is for taayaar sannidhi only. They challenge the priest saying let Lord Rama himself protect all from the lake-breach. Priest replies, our Lord definitely will protect us...

That night, Collector goes for rounds, checking the status of the lake. He gets Darshan of Lord Rama and Lakshmana, guarding the lake. Hence the temple gets the name Eri kaatha Ramar kovil...

So, the Collector visits the temple the next day and pays his respects. He renovates the Janakavalli taayaar Sannidhi paying his own money…

Lord Sri Ram who protected the lake, the town, and the people will definitely protect all of us with our kith and kin…
