Legend has it that chola king wanted to construct
the ABHIRAMI temple at thirukadaiyurand sent his
minister ILANGARA MUNIVAR TO start the work.the
minister not only constructed the temple at
thirukadaiyur also the temple at THILLAIYDI.The king
got angry when he came to know everything and ordered
the HANDS and LEGS OF ILANKARAMUNIVAR to be
severed.but LORD SHIVA AND PARVATHI BORE the injury on
their body.THE CHOLA KINGrealised his mistake and
sought the pardon. ilankara munivar wanted to see the
dance of NATARAJA AND TO FULFILL HIS DESIRE LORD
NATARAJA danced at THILLAI FORESTS which is called as
"thillaiyadi"

thillaiyadi is a very small village ,30 km from
mayiladuthurai also you can go via sirkazhi,
thirukadiyur.autos are available from
thirukadiyur.Valliammai native of this tiny village
associated herself in all struggles of MAHATHMA in
southafrica.the girl not only tried to protect the
life of mahathma by throwing herself before him when a
british soldier threatened MAHATHMA TO SHOOT HIM.in
southafrica she also participated in many struggles.
she was imprisioned for her participation in the
sathyagraha.she died at the tender age of 16 after she
came out of jail with serious illness.GANDHIJI who was
attracted by the valour of valliammai and laid a
foundatation for a MEMORIAL AT SOUTH AFRICA.Also he
visited THILLAIYADI in 1915 and appreciated her
relatives.
A STUPI AND MEMORIAL HALL have been putup by the then
tamilnadu government as a mark of respect to
VALLIAMMAI.

we were at chennai.unable to locate the street. dark and raining.people went to sleep at 06.30 pm note 06.30 p.m itself enjoying the rain!
one old gentle man wanted to help us.i wondered why he is awake still? we thought he maynot be in a position to help.
