The Sri Saarndharai Kaatha Easwaran Temple at Thillaiyadi
The temple has been a treasure trove of inscriptions dating back to the Chola period.
The renovation of an ancient temple dedicated to Sri Saranagatha Ratchagar and Sri Brahanayaki at Thillaiadi near Tirukadaiyur in the district, has helped restore ancient inscriptions.

The presiding deity, also known as Sri Sarndhaarai Kaatha Easwaran, is believed to have cured Sage Agasthiar of a disease and an idol showing Sri Agasthiar seeking his blessings can be seen at this temple.
According to official sources, the temple has been a treasure trove of inscriptions dating back to the periods of the Chola, Nayak and Pandya rulers.
The inscriptions give details about the pujai and other rituals performed at the temple.
One of the inscriptions pertains to a grant sanctioned by a ruler for performing ‘Rudhra japam’.
There are a large number of inscriptions on the northern and southern end of the ‘prakaram’ of Sri Saarndharai Kaatha Easwaran, ‘mahamandapam’ and the Vavval netri mandapam besides the entrance at the shrine dedicated to Sri Brahanayaki. The temple was last renovated and ‘mahakumbabhishekam’ performed on September 14, 1997.
“All these inscriptions had been colour-washed, and clearing it with water wash proved a great challenge,” Sivakumar, Executive Officer of the temple told ‘ The Hindu ’ here on Sunday.
The first phase of renovation focussed on clearing the whitewashed surface, without causing any damage to the stone and letters.
Further, thick growth of vegetation prevented devotees from circum-ambulating the prakaram which were cleared.

The ‘kumbabhishekam’ of the temple will be held before the end of this yea
